BGE HOME Gives Back This Holiday Season
This holiday season, BGE HOME is partnering with United Way of Central Maryland and United Way of Frederick County to provide A Gift of Warmth to three local families in need.
BGE HOME’s Gift of Warmth program provides heating system replacements for local Maryland families in need. As part of the program, BGE HOME will be donating and installing three new, high-efficiency heating systems, so that more families in our community can stay warm throughout the winter.
Giving Back During the Holidays
The Gift of Warmth program provides relief from the financial burdens of costly heating repairs and replacements and ensures more members of our community can have reliable heating as the winter weather arrives. This program also provides an opportunity for our BGE HOME technicians and installers to give back to the community by providing reliable heat to those who need it the most.
United Way of Central Maryland and United Way of Frederick County have continued to be an integral part of the Gift of Warmth program. Like BGE HOME, United Way has been serving communities in Maryland for decades. The Gift of Warmth program is an additional way United Way is able to help those in need.
Franklyn Baker, CEO, United Way of Central Maryland explains, “This initiative is firmly in-sync with the United Way’s overall mission, and we’re both grateful and excited to see families in need receive this type of support.”
Since 2013, the Gift of Warmth program has provided nine system replacements to families in need throughout BGE HOME’s service area. When families are notified that they are going receive “A Gift of Warmth,” reactions range from shock and joy to even tears. For the Valentine family, Mrs. Valentine’s reaction was a combination of all three.
In 2015, the Valentine family was nominated to receive a new heating system by two neighbors who said the family had a caring spirit and were always willing to help others. When Mrs. Valentine received the call, she was at first excited, then started to laugh and cry. After she got off the phone, she told her family the exciting news that they had been selected to receive a new heating system through the Gift of Warmth program.
The Valentine family’s unit was almost 20 years old and they were holding their breath until the day it would eventually stopping working. If their system went down, they’d need to figure out how to keep their home warm for their kids. Instead, they didn’t need to worry about it any longer. Mr. Valentine stated, “When we found out we were selected, it was truly a blessing.”
