American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012

With the passing of the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012, the following federal tax credits are available on a variety of energy-efficient products offered by BGE HOME. The tax credits are retroactive from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2013 and apply to the following products.

    Furnaces: $150 Tax Credit
  • Natural gas, propane, or oil furnace with an AFUE of ≥95
    Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps: $300 Tax Credit
  • Must achieve the highest efficiency CEE tier as of January 1, 2009
  • Split system central air conditioner that achieves ≥ 16 SEER and 13 EER
  • Packaged central air conditioner that achieves ≥ 14 SEER and 12 EER
  • Split system electric heat pump that achieves ≥ 8.5 HSPF, 12.5 EER and 15 SEER
  • Packaged electric heat pump that achieves ≥ 8.0 HSPF, 12.0 EER and 14 SEER
    Advanced Main Air Circulating Fan: $50 Tax Credit
  • A fan used in a natural gas, propane, or oil furnace with an annual electricity use of no more than 2% of the total energy use of the furnace
    Water Heaters: $300 Tax Credit
  • Natural gas, propane, or oil water heater with an Energy Factor ≥ 0.82 or a thermal efficiency of at least 90%
  • Electric heat pump water heater with an Energy Factor ≥ 2.0
    Insulation: 10% of the cost, up to $500
  • Must be bulk insulation, such as blown-in fibers
  • Products that air seal can also qualify
  • Does not include installation costs
    Windows: 10% of the cost, up to $200
  • Must be ENERGY STAR® qualified
  • Does not include installation costs
    Doors: 10% of the cost, up to $500
  • Must be ENERGY STAR qualified
  • Does not include installation costs
    Geothermal Heat Pumps: 30% of the cost, no upper limit (expires 12/31/16)
  • Water-to-Air closed loop systems that achieve EER ≥ 17.1 and COP ≥ 3.6
  • Water-to-Air open loop systems that achieve EER ≥ 21.1 and COP ≥ 4.1

You may be eligible for tax credits on qualifying high-efficiency products through 12/31/13 by the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012. Consult a tax advisor for more information. Lifetime maximum credit is capped at $500.00, except for geothermal heat pump systems (no upper limit).
